I don’t know about you, but when spring starts to show it’s lovely face around here we start thinking of evenings spent in the backyard with a cocktail while the kids play. Blood Oranges are a favorite fruit in our house and we’ve been getting them every week in our grocery delivery! What better way to use them than to make a tasty drink, a Blood Orange Martini? Sounds delicious, you say? It is, and I’m going to share my recipe with you today.
Blood Orange Martini
2 cups Blood Orange Soda (or juice)*
1 cup Limoncellino Soda (or lemonade)*
1/2 Blood Orange (sliced)
2-3 shots of Vodka
1.5 cups Ice
*If you sub juice & lemonade for the sodas, add 1-2 cups of tonic water, ginger ale or sparkling water.
Start by pouring the sodas, vodka, a few pieces of ice and juice of the blood orange into a cocktail shaker. Shake well (but carefully because of the carbonation). If you don’t own a cocktail shaker a mason jar makes for a great one. Or, just stir the ingredients together. Some prefer stirred to shaken anyway. Pour the Blood Orange Martini over ice into chilled martini glasses. Serve and enjoy!
We will be making these drinks often this spring and summer, that I can be sure of.
Matt and I both like beer, but I prefer a sweet (or sour) cocktail like a martini or a nice glass of wine. The sweet and sour from the blood oranges and the limoncellino soda makes a lovely combination. Add in the vodka for a kick and it’s a perfect drink. Delicious! You could easily make a large batch of Blood Orange Martinis ahead of time and stir when served.
What’s your favorite thing to drink? What is your favorite kind of martini?
