As an adult in California I never really had a good winter coat, because well, California.. it just wasn’t necessary. I had a cute & warm wool peacoat and that worked. Snow boots were out of the question because I was able to wear flip flops most of the year and when it was too chilly, I’d usually throw on some flats or slip-on Vans. Imagine the change I was in for when we moved to Wisconsin! I hadn’t owned snow boots since I was a teenager and even then, I rarely wore them. Quickly after making the move from California I learned that winter gear could actually be really cute and really stylish. I had no idea! Maybe this wouldn’t be such a bad thing.
Today I’m sharing some of my favorite winter gear and ideas to stay stylish in the frigid winter temps! Keep reading too because there is an awesome giveaway with lots of fabulous prizes for one lucky winner.
Cute & Cozy Shoes and Snow Boots || While some days call for a pair of extra warm & cozy snow boots, lots of days we’re ok to wear warm shoes. When Chacos offered to send me a pair of Barbary Boots I was stoked! Not only are these boots adorable, but they offer a ton of support (especially if you’ve got arches like I do) and they are warm. One day I stood outside for about two hours with just thin socks and my Chacos Barbarys while Cohen ice skated and my feet were still toasty warm when we walked home. That day, it was roughly 17 degrees outside, so pretty damn cold. Any shoes that keep my feet warm in those temps, are cozy and cute are a win in my book. And, if you enter the giveaway below, you’ll have a chance to win a $110 Gift Card to Chacos!
There are days through the winter that absolutely call for the real deal – snow boots. Warm, cozy, mostly waterproof.. and when you’ve got selections that are this cute, you can be confident that you’re heading out in style! Those big clunky moon boots we wore as kids? No more!
Warm Drinks in Hand || If we can’t be warm outside, we make every effort to do so inside. And by this I mean coffee, tea and hot cocoa. All the time!
Stylish Accessories || I like to be able to feel my fingers and my ears when I’m out. That’s not too much to ask, right? Relying on cute accessories throughout the winter makes putting on that 3rd (or 5th) layer a bit more fun. An extra layer like the Forgotten Cotton Arm Warmers (below) help so much and also fill it that gap between coat and gloves that we sometimes end up with. Hats are popular around here too, as are ear warmers.
Layers, fabulous ones! || As with shoes & boots, there are winter days that call for warm & cozy layers and there are those days that call for the warmest down jacket you can find. When you’re wearing these layers all winter long, trust me when I say that you want said layers to be stylish and look nice. There is nothing fun about feeling frumpy all winter. I never knew until living in Wisconsin that coats and outerwear could be so cute! Or, that I’d grow to love fun coats and ways of layering my clothing. I love this Faux Fur Vest from Studio15NYC! This is definitely not something I’ve ever owned before, but it’s fun and I like the tie around the waist. With a long sleeve shirt or sweater, skinnies and booties it’d be a fun outfit for a night out when you’re just running from the car to the building. Or, to wear during the day when you’ll mostly be inside. The Columbia jacket below is the one I wear daily. It’s cute and it’s warm, so very warm!
Hopefully now you’ve got some great ideas for staying warm through the remainder of this winter, or when you head out on that vacation to a cooler climate.
