Last Thursday was our first day back to school, which meant the first-day making school lunches for 9 years now. If you’re a parent then you already know this, kids complain about their lunches all.the.time! In an effort to avoid hearing how bored the kids are with their lunches, I try to switch things up a bit every week or two. One thing remains pretty consistent though in both kids lunches and that’s Annie’s Homegrown Organic Cheddar Bunnies. Every day! Not that I can blame them because those little bunnies are tasty and I don’t feel guilty giving the kids a crunchy, organic snack in their lunches.
Cohen is a huge fan of taking something in a thermos for lunch and his favorite is Annie’s Homegrown Organics Shells & White Cheddar Mac and Cheese. It’s so simple to make a box of Mac & Cheese and toss some in a thermos for lunches a couple of days a week. He loves when I add other things like veggies (especially edamame), sausage or chicken to the pasta. Typically the kid’s lunches are packed with healthy options, always something crunchy though because they both crave that.
Packing the kids a healthy lunch is super important. They need the fuel to get them through the day while they’re at school. We try to include a good mix of carbs, protein, fruits and veggies. And Cohen secretly loves that the crackers are bunny shaped, so that’s always fun. What are you packing in your kid’s lunches? Do you have picky eaters? Gone are the days of sandwiches, chips and a juice box in a lunch pail. I’ve always chosen to teach my children that food is fuel for their bodies and we need to eat foods that will keep us going throughout the day. Eating a well-balanced lunch is key!
