The blog has been so quiet over the past 10 months. If you’re unaware of why, you can catch up here. It’s been one year since my ex husband and I separated. One year since we tore our children’s lives apart, a tear that we’re trying hard to mend by showing them that there is happiness in life even if you have divorced parents. I can’t say that the past year has been easier, but I am happier. There are so many people who have helped me in so many ways. I couldn’t have made it through without my parents and my sister, they’ve been a tremendous source of love and comfort on the roughest of days. It may sound weird to say that kids have helped, but they have. The two of them have handled this divorce better than I ever could have expected and we’ve all had plenty of hug & cry sessions. I’m not saying it’s been easy on them, because… divorce is never easy, but they’re making it through. I have numerous friends and especially all of the ladies from the Mke Moms Blog who have been by my side through all of it, listening to me vent, texting when I was crying my eyes out, etc. I’ll be forever grateful for them. And, my boyfriend. We’ve been together for almost 8 months and he’s been wonderful. My kids love him and he loves them back. He’s helped keep me calm in the storm.
It feels so good to be back blogging and writing again. I probably should have continued to do so as a form of therapy the past 10 months, but things always felt busy and when you don’t have that desire to write it’s hard to sit down and type up a post. That, and I really didn’t want every post to sound sad or angry.
I moved out of our home to downtown Milwaukee in April and the kids and I absolutely love it here. It’s fun to live right in the middle of a bustling city! Brookelyn and Cohen are with their dad half of the time and still go to their same schools, so I have a little bit of a commute when they’re with me. It’s all worth it though because they’re happy at their schools and they’re happy living in the city part time. In June Brookelyn graduated middle school, making her a freshman this year… and I’m still in disbelief that my first born is a high schooler. This year she did diving and loved it, she’s constantly busy with friends and I’m lucky if I get much time with her. She’s enjoying life though and her happiness makes me happy! This summer she spent a week with my family and one of her best friends in California. They did the whole beach, learn to surf, Disneyland, visiting my home town thing and had a blast. Cohen basically had the summer of a lifetime. He spent a few days in San Francisco doing tons of fun stuff with my mom and step-dad and then off they went on a cruise to Alaska for 10 days!! Cohen had an absolute blast and so many fun stories to tell when he came home. He was gone about 3 weeks… 2 weeks and 5 days too long for his mama. I’m thankful to both of my parents and my step-dad for making this summer so much fun and so memorable for the kids, especially because I had to work.
I worked the past 8 months at a wellness center and loved it, but because business was slow they had to let me go. Next week I start work at Costco. I’ve heard it’s a great place to work so I’m excited.
Over the summer my boyfriend, Grant and I spent a week in California. We had a wonderful time visiting family, relaxing in the pool and enjoying the beach. It was a great time away together! In January I’ll go back to school (just registered today!!) for Paralegal Studies and I can’t wait. Last year I had planned to go back, but there was too much going on in our lives and I decided it would be best for myself and for the kids if I waited a bit. The divorce will be final tomorrow. Finally being able to 100% move on with my life will feel great. Though it’s also closing a major life chapter, so maybe a little bittersweet? I’ll be going back to my maiden name, so another change that’s going to take some getting used to! The kids and I talked about me having a different last name and they’re both fine with it, so that eases my mind. I can’t really imagine renaming the blog to Alyson C, so I’ll probably stick with the “m”. My middle name starts with an m, so that works.
Just typing out this post has been good for my soul. I look forward to continuing it and hopefully you’ll continue to check back on the blog regularly like you used to. If you’re new here, welcome and thanks for reading along. I even blogged earlier this week.. a super tasty recipe, you can find that here. And if you love cheese, go here!
